About Us

We started passing out sandwiches in the encampments of West Berkeley in 2016 and inviting people to take showers at the Albany Aquatic Center. This was a pretty radical idea at the time, as was considering any sort of Tenant Protection for the half of our community living in rental housing.

Since then we’ve seen change. We were able to bring the City together with Satellite Housing Associates to plan a 66-unit low and very low income apartment building on city owned land at the west end of Solano Avenue. The City Council adopted a rent-review measure we championed, although balked at meaningful rent control or no-fault eviction protection.

In truth, we are grateful that we’ve been able to make a difference.

Our free shower project would never have been possible without the cooperation and support of the Albany Unified School District and the staff of the Albany Aquatic Center.
